Success at SW Inter Counties Championship

Posted by teambath On July - 19 - 2011 Comments Off
A number of our athletes competed for their counties at Exeter in the SW Inter Counties championship on Sunday.

We had many medallists representing 3 counties, the lone Gloucestershire athlete being Loren Bleaken who won double gold in the U/17 800m and 300m in 39.60

Representing Wiltshire, gold medals were won by Emily Hutchinson in the U/15 girls shot with 10m31, Robert Howorth in the U/13 boys 800m in 2.35.19, William Kennedy in the U/15 boys 100m in 11.57 and Rhys Brown in the U/17 mens 400m hurdles in 58.35

I don’t have any 1500m times so apologies to John Howorth, Imogen Wolsley and any other 1500m runners and any pole vaulters as I didn’t see any PV results.

Silver medals in Wiltshire went to Katherine Turner in the U/20 womens 800m in 2.17.19, Gemma Young in the U/20 women’s shot with 9m89, Jake Burkey in the U/13 boys long jump with 4m89, a new PB and William Kennedy in the U/15 boys 200m in 24.06

Avon silver medallists were Beth Richardson in the U/17 womens high jump with 1m54 and Jasmine Hennessey in the U/13 girls shot with 6m77

Wiltshire bronze medals to Katie Geddes in the U/17 100m in 12.75 (a new PB) and 200m in 26.29, Katie Phillips in the U/17 women’s hammer with 22m75, Jake Burkey in the U/13 boys 200m in 28.44 (new PB) and Alex Carter, returning from injury, in the U/17 mens 3000m in 9.06.03.

Avon bronze to Alice Reynolds in the U/15 girls high jump with 1m48. Results attached.

Wiltshire Super8 League: Bath

Posted by teambath On July - 13 - 2011 Comments Off
The Club hosted the final Super8 meeting of ther season at Bath last Tuesday and we finished top club. The points from Tuesday were as follows:-

TeamBath 4086
Marlborough 4008
Salisbury 3462
Swindon 540

The results format doesn’t give the finishing positions, only the points scored so I can’t tell you who won most of the events but the winners know who they are. The results also only show the first two letters of surnames so, donning my Sherlock Holmes gear, I will try to deduce who everyone is.

Apologies if I get anyone wrong. I saw a number of our winners but also missed a few but it was a great evening and there were some super performances. I will attach a list as usual.

The format of Super8 works well, but some of us feel it might be better suited to a Saturday morning as it makes a very late weekday evening during term time for the younger ones. I think, as a Club, we will want to stay in the Super8 as it provides good mixed competition for the newer athletes and gives the established ones a chance to try different events.

The highlight was the medley relay at the end, the like of which I have not seen before. The format was 100m girl, 100m boy, 100m girl, 100m boy, 200m girl, 200m girl, 400m boy, 400m boy. We had a team in each age group and we were the only club so almost all our competitors were on the track in one race. Great stuff.

I don’t have the overall league scores but I assume Marlborough were the overall winners with a close run thing for second between ourselves and Salisbury.

Help needed

Posted by teambath On July - 5 - 2011 Comments Off

Team Bath AC really needs some extra help to keep on top of all the jobs that enable us to run, jump and throw.  If you can help please respond…

1. Kit control.  Team bath AC needs someone to sell kit to new members (and old) on club nights.  Recompense i.e. a proportion of sales will be negotiated.  This will involve sitting near to the registration desk on a club night with a selection of kit and either selling directly or taking orders to be distributed from the desk in the following week.

2. Race organisers.  Sue and Ray Brigden are stepping down after doing a sterling job of organising the Royal Victoria Park 4 mile race.  Held annually in November over a distance of 4 miles within the park this is one of the key events for the club that we would like to see continue and grow.   If you would like to take on this event with club support please let Dave Coales or a committee member know.

An enquiry has also been made as to whether Team Bath would host a Gloucester League Cross Country Race this winter.  Again if you are interested please contact Dave Coales or a committee member.

3. Young athlete social secretary.  We are aware that the young athletes of the club are vital to its continued success.  To that end if there is a young Team Bath AC club member who has some good ideas as to how they could generate interest and team spirit in the younger members then we want to hear from them.  Someone with a journalistic bent would probably fit the bill but the committee is keen to hear ideas and hope someone comes forward to take this role on.

TeamBath Open Meeting

Di Viles reports:

The Club hosted the largest turnout of athletes for a Wednesday evening Open meeting ever, with over 170 athletes enjoying the evening sunshine, albeit with a strong breeze, to compete in a variety of track and field events.

The track programme started with the 3000m for all ages and first home was Mike Griffiths of TeamBath in 9.29.6 with Gary Hughes (10.18.7), Malcolm Treby (10.30.0), Jenny Carter (10.38.8), Jo Thompson (10.49.8) and Andy Reid (12.44.30) all competing as well.

In the hurdles races that followed, home club winners were Maddy Awan in the U/13 girls 70m hurdles (race 2 in 15.1) and Adam Whittaker in the U/17 mens 100m hurdles in 17.7

The 100m races provided wins for Maisie Goodmanton in the U/13 girls race 2 in 15.1, Adam Gordon (U/13 boys race 1 in 13.8) and Henry Thomas (U/13 boys race 2 in 15.1).

200m winner was Robert Howorth (U/13 boys race 1 in 28.4) whilst 400m winners were George Chapman (U/15 boys in 57.4) with Eliot Green first U/17 man home in the combined race in 57.4

The U/11 600m was a Bath double with Laura McNab winning the girls in 1.59.3 and Rory Howorth the boys in 1.48.3 and 800m races provided a 1,2,3 in the U/15 and U/13 combined race with George Chapman first in 2.15.3, Alfie Kilgour second in 2.28.2 and Robert Howorth first U/13 home in 2.30.9.

In the field, wins in the javelin for Rafe Hamilton in the U/15 boys with 25m15 and Josh Hay in the U/17 with 16m16, Josh also winning the shot with 6m69 and discus with 19m10. High jump winners were Rory Howorth (U/11 boys with 1m20) William Singleton (U/13 boys with 1m20) and Alice Reynolds (U/15 girls with 1m40).

Pick of the events elsewhere were a very high quality pole vault, won by Cameron Walker-Shepherd of Birchfield with 4m80, from Christian North of Woodford Green with 4m70, Connell McQuisten of Bath in third with 4m40 and Jamie Courteney of Cheltenham with 4m30.

The U/13 girls high jump was very competitive , finally being won by Natasha Smith of Stroud with 1m35 and the senior mens 100m was a Cardiff 1,2 with Rory Price just pipping Anax Dasilva 11.1 to 11.2.

Strong contingents from Cwmbran and Stroud, along with some athletes from most of the other local clubs and the usual party from Downside School made it a very successful evening.

It was great to see so many of our young athletes out, most competing for the first time. I hope they all enjoyed the experience. Feed back so far has been very positive. All credit to Julia for getting them out to compete. Now let us see a lot of them competing in the Avon league at the end of the month. It was also great to see some of our seniors out competing.

Wiltshire County Championships

Di Viles reports:

For the first time this year, we had brilliant weather for a meeting and Wiltshire’s young athletes took full advantage with numerous medals , PB’s and Championship records at Tidworth on Sunday.

Where to start? We had so many brilliant performances. On the track, Katie Geddes produced a hat trick of wins, two of them PBs, with wins in the U/17 womens 100m in 13.3, 200m in 27.1 (PB) and 300m in 41.7, also a PB and first time under 42.

In the field, her performance was emulated by Emily Hutchinson who had a hat trick of wins in the U/15 girls with wins in the javelin with 15m87, the discus with 23m22 (a new PB) and shot with a huge new PB of 11m18, first time over 11m.

William Kennedy was another hat trick winner with wins in the U/15 boys 100m in 12.0, 200m in 24.2 and long jump with 5m55 (PB?).

Double winners were Robert Howorth in the U/13 boys 800m in 2.20.4 and high jump with a new PB of 1m33, Shane Windsor with wins in the u/17 mens 100m in 12.0 and 200m in 24.0, Livia Gauntlett winning the U/15 girls 75m hurdles in 12.0 and the long jump with 4m61 (a new PB?) and Katie Phillips had double wins the the U/17 womens hammer with 19m93 and discus with a new PB of 21m42.

Other winners were Matthew Holt in the U/17 mens shot with 7m74, Chloe Merritt in the U/15 girls high jump with a new PB and championship equalling performance of 1m58.

Jake Burkey had a storming run home in the U/13 boys 200m in 28.6, whilst Rhys Brown smashed the championship record by 5 seconds in the U/17 mens 400m hurdles in 57.6

Afeni Payne-Bonnick won the U/15 girls 200m in 27.7, Elise Gauntlett won the U/17 womens pole vault with 2m90 (a new CR) and Ben Fielding came first in  the U/17 mens hammer with 14m17.

Our teams also won the U/15 girls, U/15 boys and U/17 mens 4 x 100m relays.

It was a brilliant day, both in terms of weather and performances. The only black spot: where, oh where were our U/11 boys and girls in the QuadKids event? With the honourable exception of Rory Howorth who won the boys event by a huge margin (well done Rory) we didn’t have a single U/11 athlete on display.

There may be some late results I have missed, if so, apologies to those athletes. Full results attached.

Calling all parents and interested athletes.
