Over 150 athletes competed in warm sunshine on Sunday in the fourth Team Bath AC FieldFest meeting and many were rewarded with personal bests, both local athletes and visitors. One of the stars on the meeting was Jake Burkey who leapt to a legal personal best in the long jump with 6m49, then went on to win the high jump with a new PB of 1m75. There were a number of other personal bests on the day, among them Dougal Cusack-Brown and Jude Brotherwood finsishing first and second in the U/17 mens high jump with 1m75 ans 1m70 respectively, Imogen Leakey (1m45 ), Jenna Doyle (1m35) and Jude Darby (1m45) all in the high jump, Kiran Carter (5m33), James Chadwick (5m57) Ben Game(4m95) and Robyn Ellison (4m83) in the long jump, Jack Bardzil, (11m40) Finn Gillow (10m88), and Oli Sydenham (10m95) in the triple jump and Gabriella Holt (41m34) in the hammer using a new heavier weight A special mention for Jonathan Evans who has taken up multi events and moved to a new age group who threw 11m62 in the shot, 31m66 in the javelin and 27m14 in the discus. It was also great to see a number of new young athletes competing in TeamBath colours.
Among the visiting athletes, there was a top class triple jump A competition with all 7 male athletes over 13 metres, the winner being Jeff Angila from Exeter with 13m93. There was also an excelllent javelin competition with Andrea Mantroni of Bristol winning the men’s event with 61m39 and the women’s event was won by Bethany Moule of Neath with 46m95.
It was a great day and huge thanks to all the people, coaches, officials and parents who helped to make it such a good day. Grateful thanks to Basingstoke club from whom we hired the EDM which made the long throws go more smoothly. This was our best yet, roll on next year.
