Introduction to joining the club as a Junior – Ages 9 – 17
Junior Athlete Policy – All junior athletes are assigned a coaching group, whether one of our main groups or one of our 365 groups. This ensures their Health and Safety and Safeguarding is looked after and that they have a purposeful, enjoyable and structured experience each time.
For this reason it is not normally possible to join any group if this has not been arranged beforehand with the coaching co-ordinator or the membership team.
Our desk will be happy to provide information to anyone enquiring, but will be unable to arrange any coaching for a junior athlete who just shows up without contacting us first.
Athlete Development and Progression
Team Bath AC operates a multi-event, skill learning programme for its young and / or inexperienced athletes called Athletics365. This programme ensures all young athletes are given the skills and abilities to participate in all events, following a structured programme of activity that has inbuilt challenges and progressions. The programme will provide the generic athletics foundation that will enable the young person to enjoy and excel in all sports as well as providing the stepping stones to mastering the athletics events.
As Athletics365 follows a structured programme Team Bath AC organises the programme into the school terms. The programme (re-)enrols at the start of each. Terms are typically 12 -14 weeks in duration with a one week break for half-term.
Sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Young athletes on this 365 programme are encouraged to compete for the club and to develop their areas of ability and interest. The Team Manager provides team sheets for the athletes to sign up for the various events in the Track and Field season.
As their ability and interest develops they have the opportunity to train with the event specific coaching groups, initially alongside their participation in 365, and eventually solely in the coaching groups in the area in which they have developed.
Event specific coaching groups
Athletes with ability and interest in particular areas of athletics or specific events train with one of our coaching groups. This interest and ability has either developed within our 365 programme, or for athletes new to the club it has come from competing at school or elsewhere. Athletes typically join these groups on a trial basis so that they and the coach can assess and ensure this is the right group for the athlete. We also look at the athlete’s results and performance information when assessing and determining the appropriate group for them to join.
Athletes within our coaching groups typically compete for the club and at higher levels such as county and national standard, and are expected to compete for the club whenever they are selected and available.
Our coaching group events and areas are currently:
- Jumps:- Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump
