The Club has a thriving youth section competing in track and field and cross country.

We take athletes from 9 years old as members and have produced many successful athletes from our youth section including Jason Gardener, the former European 60 metres champion who joined us at 12 years of age. We have qualified coaches in most track and field events, although we would always welcome more.

Due to a combination of a shortage of coaches and an increased interest there is currently (as at July 2010) a waiting list for some of the groups. You should therefore check with our membership secretary Sue Brigden (01761 432 426 or email sue@teambathac.org) before coming along.

The young athletes train twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6:30pm-8:00pm (under 11s from 7:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday only) at the University. We have access to both the outdoor and indoor tracks and also use the sports hall for various field events.

The club competes in the NYAL Young Athletes League for boys and girls aged 11 to 16, the Avon League for everyone and the South West League for everyone. In addition the Club stages open meetings at the University. There are also the county championships and for those good enough the regional and national championships.

For athletes under 9, we have the TeamBath Tribe which is run by Julia Bailey and Tom Ashley. They also train twice a week from 7:00pm-8:00pm and concentrate on learning the basics of athletics and having fun! This group is a stepping stone to the athlete becoming a member of the club once they reach 9 years old. Julia can be contacted at jb400@bath.ac.uk
