Good performances in Birmingham at the Midland/SW Indoor Cghampionships
Many of our athletes travelled to Birmingham for the Midland/South West Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday and the Club had probably the largest ever haul of medals from the Championships. The South West results don't appear to be separate so the medal haul in the SW will be even higher. These are the Midlands results.Gold medals went to Katherine Turner in the U/17 800m in 2.18.67 (2.25.58 in heat) , Laura Butcher in the U/20 pole vault with 3m10, a new PB and Hannah Grubb in the U/17 pole vault with 3m50 a new PB. More good performances at the Indoor Open meeting at the University on Saturday
The second Indoor Open Meeting of the winter, staged by the University of Bath, saw more good performances from our athletes.
On the sprint track, winners were Abi Davies (U/17 60m in 8.16 having done 8,12 in the heat) from teammate Sarah Neate in 8.62 (8.42 in heat), George Harford (U/15 boys 60m in 7.66, 7.67 in heat) and Sarah Neate (U/17 60m hurdles in 9.99).
In the field, there were wins in the shot for Jess Flower in the U/17 women with 9m18 and Olivia Wood in the U/15 with 8m22, in the pole vault for Laura Butcher (U/20 women with 2m82 and Connell McQuistan (U/20 men with 4m27), triple jump for Andy Minchin in the U/17 m with 12m43 and the high jump for Chloe Merriitt who improved her PB 3 times to win the U/15 girls with 1m53.
The meeting was better attended than previous meetings and the standard in many events was very high. Full club results below.
I am sure there were many PB's and excellent performances. Two that appear to stand out, apart from Chloe Merritt, were Joe Hutchinson in the shot, only 26 cm behind James Preston who is one of the top putters in the country, and Connell McQuistan who has improved hugely.

Some of these names are unfamiliar to me and may belong to Uni people. Theo Campbell appears in the final as Alex Campbell and I don't think he is ours anyway although listed as TeamBath and Olivia Dixon should be Olivia Wood, I think!
Nice to see Mark Hardyman back jumping after about 5 years away! Although living in Hampshire now, he is at the Uni and has started jumping again. This was his first comp in years, he first competed for us at the age of 9 and topped the British U/11 rankings at the age of 10 with 1m35.
On a different note, I have had the dates and venues for 2010 for the NYAL. They are as follows:-
1.2/5/10 Camarthen
2.16/5/10 Bath we are host club
3.20/6/10 Neath
4.18/7/10 Cwmbran
These are subject to change but that is how it stands at the moment. A reminder that we still need a team manager/s for 2010. Any offers greatly welcomed.

Good performances at Yate in the Avon AA Championships on Saturday May 9th
Teambath A.C. athletes had some spectacular performances at Avon AA champs at Yate on Saturday. Probably the performance of the day came from Natasha Lewis who broke the Club record and, almost certainly, (officials were hurridly trying to find the records!) the championship record, in the U/17 w long jump with a leap of 5m61. She also finished a close second in the 300m in 40.93. It was a good day, too, for the Smith family with Laura winning the U/17 womens 200m in 26.45 and finishing 3rd in the 300m in 43.79 and younger brother Adam winning the U/13 high jump with 1m15. Jess Flower did the double in the U/17 shot and discus with ? and 24m97 . Another athlete to do the double was Andy Minchin in the U/17 age group with a win in the 400m in 54.46 and the triple jump with 12m19. Other winners were Becky Pierce in the senior womens 1,500m in 5.12.7, Lauren Gale in the U/17 pole vault with 3m with Laura Butcher in second with 2m90 and Conor Farr in the U/17 mens discus with 39m93. Second places went to Laura Maddox in the U/20 200m in a new personal best of 24.88 with Ruth Dean in 3rd place in 25.68, Ruth also taking silver in the 100m in 12.48. Other second places to Charlie Fraser in the U/13 boys 75m hurdles in 16.23 and Conor Farr in the U/17 shot with 11m06. Good start to 2009 NYAL season at Plymouth on Sunday.
TeamBath A.C. travelled the long journey to Plymouth for the first NYAL match of the season and finished third behind two of the league's strongest teams, Cardiff and Plymouth but well ahead of Gloucester. For once, throwers scored many of the points and the disappointment was middle distance where many athletes and coaches appeared to think attending a BMC meeting more important than representing the Club in a team event. The day was given a good start with James Threlfall winning the U/17 mens hammer, the first event of the day, with 23m32. He was followed by Conor Farr, who won the U/17 mens discus, with a new PB and grade 2 standard throw of 40m47 and Jack Bryer winning the U/15 boys discus with 22m00. Conor also won the shot with 11m76 and, in the U/15 boys shot new boy Rhys Brown won the A event with 9m87 Jack Bryer winning the B event with 9m53. In the U/13 boys Andrew Foxall won the shot with 5m80. Not to be outdone, u/15 girls took maximum points in the discus with Olivia Wood winning the A with 19m92 and Zoe Burke the B with 17m25. Other field winners were James Threlfall and Liam Gardner taking maximum points in the U/17 high jump with 1m80 and 1m70, Anna Alexander-Holmes and Olivia Wood doing the double in the U/15 long jump with 4m80 and 4m46, Jess Heffer won the U/17 long jump with 4m26 and Tuesday Jeffries won the u/13 high jump with 1m33.

TeamBath athletes won lots of medals at Exter on 3rd August
I have finally got hold of the results from Exeter last weekend. The Club had a very good day with medals for both Avon and Wiltshire and this was without some of our top athletes who were on holiday or injured (or both!). There also appeared to be some problem with the automatic timing as some performances were manual times only. The weather was pretty miserable with persistent rain so some performances were a bit down but an impressive medal haul nonetheless.

wins galore at Swansea in the NYAL match at Swansea
TeamBath A.C. travelled to the super new track in Swansea for the final NYAL match of the season. Although the results computer had a glitch and could not provide final match results, we think we were just pipped for second place, behind host club Bridgend, by the combined Yeovil, Wells and Taunton team. The Club were given a brilliant start by Alastair Todd, who won the first race of the day, the U/17 mens 400m hurdles in 61.5, then won the high jump with a new personal best of 1m75, an improvememt of 10 cm and finally led the U/17 mens 4 by 400m relay team to victory in the final event of the day. Fast improving U/13 girl Olivia Wood, who recently set a SWAL League record in the discus, achieved on of the few Grade 1 performances of the day, this time winning the 70 m hurdles in 12.0 with Tuesday Jeffries winning the B event in 14.3. Olivia also won the B event 75m and 150 m with Katie Geddes winning both A events. The Dixon sisters then teamed up to take maximum points in the U/13 1,200m with Emily winning the A race in 4.11.1 and Alice the B race in 4.53.2. Emily also won the long jump with 4m31. In the U/15 girls 1,500m Colette McCambridge and Alex Stainthorpe took maximum points win 5.07.6 and 5.30.9. In the U/17 events, Ruth Dean and Amy Longo proved unbeatable with Ruth winning the 100m A in 12.6, the 200m A in 26.1 and the 300m A in 43.0 with Amy winning the 100m B in 12.9 and the 200m B in 26.5. Marcie Bower won the 800m A in 2.28.9 and Gemma Young the shot with 9m65. All four girls then teamed up to win the 4 by 100m relay. In the U/17 mens events, the Club again dominated the sprints with Romaine Hyman and George McCaw winning both A and B 100m and 200m, Romaine in 11.6 and 23.6 and George in 11.7 and 24.0 with Sam Otto winning the 400m in 52.6. Other B winner was Marcie Bower in the javelin with 14m20.
Second places went to Tuesday Jeffries (U/13 high jump with 1m35 and long jump with 3m54), Abi Davies (U15 girls 200m A in 28.1), Annie Ingram (U/15 girls 800m in 2.36.4), Gemma Young (U/17 javelin with 17m87), Laura Butcher (U/17 pole vault with 2m80), Georgy Dragonic ( U/13 long jump with 4m15,100m A in 14.7 and 200m B in 29.6 with Gareth Davies in the B event also with 14.7 and 200m A in 29.4), Michael Gardner (high jump with 1m30 and shot with 7m78), Liam Gardner (U/15 high jump with 1m60 with Ryan Farrington in the B event with 1m45), Harry Allen (U/15 boys 200m in 25.7)Jack Miluk (U/15 boys1,500m in 4.54.6), Sam Otto U/17 long jump with 4m61) and Tom Beer (U/17 800m in 2.10.3 and 1,500m in 4.36.2). Other second B places went to Sarah Neate (U/15 100m in 15.4), Anna Alexander-Holmes (U/15 200m in 27.5), Zoe Burke (U/15 shot with 5m91), Gareth Davies (U/13 shot with 5m76) and Pietr Mahey (U/15 long jump with 4m22).

Good performances in the Avon League match at Yate on Sunday.
TeamBath A.C. had another good day at Yate in the second Avon League match of the season on Sunday, despite the absence of many of the top athletes, due to English Schools. The day started and finished on a high note with victory in both the first and last races of the day. The day opened with a win for Sam Leadbetter in the U/17 400m hurdles in 63.1 and finished with an unlikely win for the senior mens 4 by 100m relay team of George McCaw, Craig Bridges, Ollie Bower and Tim Howell in 47.5. In between there were a number of other victories, many of which I do not have details for. Among the track A winners were Romaine Hyman in the U/17 mens 100m in 11.5, Ruth Dean in the U/17 100m in 12.7 and 200m in 26.1, Drew Goodchild in the U/15 400m in 54.8 with Joshua Ridewood winning the B race in 57.3 and Marcie Bower in the U/17 800m with Annie Ingram, moving up and age group, in second (no times). Field winners included Michael Gardner in the U/13 boys high jump with Im35, Olivia Woods in the U/13 girls discus with 17m27 with Tueday Jeffries winning the B event with 11m53. B event winners were Sarah Neate in the U/15 girls 100m in 13.6, Laura Smith, moving up an age group, to win the U/17 100m B in 13.5, Alstair Todd in the U/17 400m in 54.8, A.Geddes in the U/13 boys javelin with 15m38 and Tess Brunton in the U/15 girls long jump with 4m37. Second A places went to Abi Davies (U/15 girls 100m in 13.5 and 200m in 28.2), Katie Geddes (U/13 girls 200m in 29.2), Dave Coales (SM 5,000m in 17.32.1), Liam Gardner (U/15 boys high jump with 1m55), Anna Alexander- Holmes (U/15 girls long jump with 4m70), Olivia Woods (U/13 girls long jump with 4m04), Ollie Bower (SM 1,500m in 4.21.1) Tom Beer (U/17 1500m in 4.34.1) Gareth Davies (U/13 boys 1500m in 5.00.7). Second B places went to Tuesday Jeffries (U/13 girls long jump with 3m76), Reuben Bower (SM1,500m in 4.22.9) and Sarah Neate (U/15 girls 200m in 28.2). Apologies to all athletes I have missed, the results were hard to come by. Full results should be available next week.
The NYAL match scheduled to take place at Cardiff next Sunday will now take place at Swansea. This will mean an earlier start from Bath. Maps will be available on Tuesday.

medals for Club athletes at English Schools at Gateshead last weekend
The Club had its largest representation ever at English Schools at Gateshead at the weekend and came back with its best ever haul of medals. Pride of place went to Simon Merrill (Avon)who made up for his disappointment at being unfairly overlooked for selection to the World Junior Championships in Poland, by winning the Senior Boys 110m hurdles title in 14.11 seconds, following his heat win in 14.11 seconds. Silver medal went to Chloe Hillier (Wilts) in the Senior Girls high jump with a jump of 1m63, equalling her season's best. Apparently the weather on the Friday was appalling so all credit to the athletes who competed in the rain, especially those who produced a PB.

league records and wins at Braunton in the SW league on Sunday
TeamBath A.C. travelled to Braunton on Sunday and returned with five new league records and 27 wins. Among the new league records was the one claimed by Annie Ingram in the U/15 girls 1,500m with a new record of 5.10.5, with Colette McCambridge also breaking the old record in second in 5.15.9 and Alex Stainthorpe completing the clean sweep in third in 5.28.6. These performances were all the more worthy because there was a very strong wind all day, which did not help the distance runners at all. Avon League at Yate 15/6/08 and Midland U/20 Champs
Ed Mason won a silver medal at the Midland U/20 championships at Birmingham today with another 1m90 jump, the winner doing 1m95. It was a very cold, blustery day, unlike here at Yate.
A disappointingly small team contested the first Avon league at Yate on Sunday with only a handful of winners. Ruth Dean again proved unbeatable in the U/17 100m winning in 13.1. Chloe Hillier produced a season's best to win the senior womens high jump with 1m63 and Tuesday Jeffries won the U/13 girls high jump with 1m28. there were second A places for Laura Smith in the U/15 girls 100m in 13.7, Thalia Nasse in the U/13 girls 100m in 14.2, Katie Phillips in the U/15 girls high jump with 1m30 and javelin with 16m41 with Zoe Burke winning the B event with 11m? and Lui Pollastrone in the U/17 mens 800m in 2.13.0. Several new athletes who competed and impressed were Jacob Stephenson, Joel Gibson-Gleav and Giverney Paul. As usual a number of results are missing especially the later events.
I am still trying to get results from Avon and Wiltshire Schools Championships. I know we had a number of winners at both meetings. If anyone can supply me with times and distances from either meeting please do. I have a few from both meetings but not enough.

Compton Dandy Race Report - 11/08/05
By Andy Middleton...
Someone spotted our Bath vests and commented "Bath used to dominate these races, winning everything". He gave us a sympathetic look, the type of look that people give old boxers who don't know when to retire he's still looking for the long lost glory all he gets is more punch drunk. Except none of us noticed.
The Compton Dandy the last of the Summer Series Races and we had a full male team, Craig, Jim, Simon, Chairman Mullet and I. Elies and Jo represented the girls with Iwein and Nick our supporters.
As usual the scenery was great the low sun made the views fantastic but navigation was difficult with more than a few runnners taking detours around the paddocks, including our own Andy.
Some races say "multi-terrain" but this one takes the term to a new level. We ran on roads, through wheat, clover, cow fields, on forrest tracks, farm roads and waist deep streams all packed into 10k.
Our results were also fantastic, Craig picked up 2nd, Jim, Simon and I all managed to get on the first page of results (top 20) Andy was a little further behind due to the extra field he ran around.
Jo was 3rd female proving that the hard Tuesday runs are paying dividends and Elies reveled in the stream overtaking people on the toughest part of the course.
And our male team, did we taste the canvas? Are Baths glory days gone?
Ding, ding fights over don't retire yet, City of Bath first place!! and a bottle of cider each!
O.K. so it's not the World Champs but i'll be grinning from ear to ear on Tuesday.
